I know it's a bit tired to ask whether a show has jumped the shark or not, but last night's episode of Lost had me asking the question (possibly the show that's jumped the shark the most ever?). Basically my issue is the several seconds that the show took to really draw out the drama of Mr. Tom Friendly
gasp kissing a man. I mean really, is this supposed to be a serious revelation? Either it's not supposed to be a big deal, the writers were foolishly jumping on the unnecessary gay character bandwagon, and the director of the episode made a poor direction choice, or this is a pathetically terrible "Lost revelation." As much as I want to believe it was just a dumb direction choice, the evidence leads me to believe that the writers of Lost are busy making intricate flow charts about which characters are gay or not.
I checked out a Lost forum to see if any threads had been made on the subject, and I found that "This has been suspected for quite a while now. They just confirmed it last night." Hardcore fans had suspicions from the episode way back when Kate was captured. Apparently Kate got out of the shower at one point during the episode and when Mr. Friendly handed her clothes and Kate said, "do you mind?" Mr. Friendly smuggly said "Kate, you're not my type."
It's apparent then that Lost writers took the time to plan out the sexuality of a minor character as far back as a season ago. Given that there is only 24 hours in a day, and that Lost has a backlog of dozens of mysteries to solve, I feel like this is a huge waste of time. However, perhaps this is an important detail. Maybe Mr. Whitmore is trying to find the Island so he can stop THE OTHERS' SINISTER GAY AGENDA.
